Why Ooni?
Ooni revolutionized outdoor cooking and created a new category when the company launched the world’s first portable pellet pizza oven in 2012. Since then Ooni ovens have made it possible for people to make a delicious wood-fired pizza in their own back garden and for a fraction of what traditional brick-and-mortar ovens cost.
In 2011, Kristian Tapaninaho created the Ooni after finding his own pizzas lacking. He wanted to create a portable oven with the wood-fired flavour he sought, so he searched for one that met his requirements but found nothing available on the market. Seeing this as an opportunity to create an oven that was small, portable, wood-fired and cost-effective, he set to work on his own prototype and soon created the first Ooni (which means “oven” in Finnish).
Kristian wasn’t an inventor, engineer, or product designer, but he knew he had a great idea. After a series of prototypes and backyard testing, Ooni – the fast, portable, cost-effective, kick-ass wood-fired oven was born!
